Motorists Face DWI Charges In Putnam County Stops

Three motorists are facing DWI charges after a series of Putnam County traffic stops, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

A Putnam County deputy allegedly observed a driver commit a traffic infraction on Danbury Road in the Town of Southeast on Saturday, March 30 around 12:30 a.m.

After initiating a vehicle stop, the deputy noticed that the driver, identified as 21-year-old Garrett Whelton-Pane of Bethel, appeared to be intoxicated, police say.

Whelton-Pane was arrested and transported to Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing. He was charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated (BAC of .18 or more), a misdemeanor
  • Operating a motor vehicle with BAC of .08 or more, a misdemeanor

Whelton-Pane was released after posting $100.00 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Southeast Justice Court at a future date.

The Putnam County Sheriff Office also alleges that a deputy was dispatched by Putnam 911 to the vicinity of State Route 312 and State Route 22 for a report of an erratic driver on Sunday, March 31 around 3:45 a.m.

Police say the deputy scanned the area and observed a vehicle matching the description provided commit a traffic violation on State Route 22 in the Town of Patterson.

After initiating a traffic stop, police say the driver, identified as Gustavo Pop-Tux, 22, of Dover Plains, was allegedly intoxicated.

Pop-Tux was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor Aggravated driving while intoxicated (operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .18 or more, a misdemeanor
  • Driving while intoxicated (operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more, a misdemeanor

Pop-Tux was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail/$1,000 bail bond and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Patterson Justice Court at a future date and time.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office further alleges that a deputy initiated a traffic stop after observing a driver commit a traffic violation on State Route 22 in the Town of Southeast on Sunday, March 2 around 12:30 a.m.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Jennifer Stangarone, 35, of Southeast, was allegedly intoxicated, police say.

Stangarone was arrested and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility. She was charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor
  • Driving while intoxicated (operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more), a misdemeanor

Stangarone was ticketed and is scheduled to return to the Town of Southeast Justice Court at a future date.
